If I contributed to the build, functionality or maintenance of your WordPress website, chances are you’ve got a Yoast SEO plugin installed, and the developer made a few major changes this June. In the recent past, this is the tool that generated little red-orange-green dots in the Publish box of your Post and Page edit screens to indicate how well optimized this new entry was for search. Since the change, they’re now breaking out SEO from readability and giving you an indicator in the Publish box of how you’re doing on each. You may also see an indicator in the black menu bar at the very top of your site when you’re logged in that has a small number (often “2”) next to an icon of a stylized Y on a small rectangle. This is also part of this plugin.
Because I’ve received some questions about how to use the updated plugin, I wanted to share this link to the developer’s article announcing the update and the video below, which they created. If you feel like you’d like some help using the updated plugin, let me know! We can schedule a session and talk through whether to make changes to your archives. You can also ask questions in my comment section or on Yoast’s article.
